Comments to CFPB on Amendments to the 2013 Mortgage Rules

The Center for Survivor Agency and Justice, with expert advisor Karen Tjapkes, has submitted comments to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau regarding new amendments to the 2013 Mortgage Rules. Current mortgage loan regulations require a spouse’s cooperation to adjust a loan or to access simple loan information (even when the one spouse was awarded the mortgage in divorce). This presents enormous risks for survivors of domestic violence, whose partners may use this as an opportunity to inflict further economic abuse. CSAJ’s comments suggest a host of amendments to equip survivors with their full rights and the autonomy necessary to remain free from future abuse.
